Which difficulties of finding job in web3?

You probably don't fully understand some of the systems that power your life. And that's ok. You're just human. You might not fully grasp how the subway you ride to work runs or what cleans your water or delivers you high-speed internet. We often get used to the systems we rely on, which can fuel complacency with their technicalities and inefficiencies.

You engage with social graphs all the time, probably more than you even realize (or would like to). That is if you're one of the nearly five billion people who use the internet. Chances are you don’t know much about how they work or why.

Most define social graphs as [a representation of the relationships](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_graph) between people, groups, and organizations that make up the world's social networks, i.e., apps like Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Linkedin, and Twitter. If you look at an image of a social graph (see below), you'll see a bunch of interconnected circles ("nodes") which represent certain habits and interests that social networks use to connect us with others. It's like a map, but social graphs connect people instead of cities or countries and are the backbone of the modern digital social media experience. You're part of many social graphs, whether you know it or not, and they directly influence your entire online experience.

Social networks rely heavily on graphs to serve us recommended content and connections based on who's in our network. The differences between social networks’ graphs are where things really get interesting. Let's check out some of the major apps’ graphs, starting with one of the first to reimagine our entire meaning of "friend" — Facebook.

If you've ever seen the movie *The Social Network*, you might have a slight idea of how Facebook came to be and why it changed the game via a pioneering algorithm (an evolution of the code Zuck wrote on his dorm room window). What made Facebook so unique at the time was that its graph focused on connecting people based on relationships, which were initially limited to people who went to the same university. To grow one's social graph on Facebook, you had to request friends, and "suggested friends" helped recommend who you might want in your network. From there, connections could get deeper and more relevant.

Twitter's social graph, on the other hand, is all about who you follow and less about who follows you. Unlike Facebook's predominant two-directional friend graph, Twitter's is built from one-way follows. What's unique (or at least at one point was) about Twitter's graph is that you can follow others without requiring mutual consent, which is why it leans more interest-based. Chances are you don't follow LeBron James because you think he will follow you back and hit you up for a one-on-one game (but good luck if so!) — you probably love basketball and think he's the G.O.A.T.

LinkedIn's social graph isn't based on if you love cats, LeBron, or accepted a friend request from your mom; it’s all about professional connections, work relationships, and career-oriented interactions. Most people log in to LinkedIn to connect with others in their field, often hoping to land a job. As a result, LinkedIn's graph emphasizes your skills and work history to serve you with networking and career opportunities.

And, the ever-addictive TikTok. Understanding TikTok's graph will help you wrap your head around the evolution of social graphs, which have moved away from relying solely on connections versus *interests.* TikTok's unique algorithm helped influence a massive shift in how social networks measure success, attract advertisers, and retain users — it mainly serves to feed you bite-sized videos based on your interests (the mystical "For You Page"). It cares less about who you follow as it does how long you watch a video. As Eugene Wei suggested in his stellar [piece](https://www.eugenewei.com/blog/2021/9/29/and-you-will-know-us-by-the-company-we-keep) on social graphs and network design, TikTokers aren’t as interested in who follows them as they are the relevance of the content they see. If you've ever scrolled endlessly on TikTok to the point that you have forgotten the time, date, and that you start work in an hour, you would inevitably have a harder time remembering the accounts you saw as you would the content you consumed.

Now that your crash course in social graphs is complete, let's explore what people need help understanding about social graphs and how, while they might entertain us, it's often to the detriment of our online experience. This is true even if most of us don't realize it, something our friend Eugene calls "survivor bias." Like some of the everyday actions described earlier (transportation infrastructure, public goods, amenities, etc.), we often become complacent with the design patterns that "win" in society. Social graphs are no different. Most social apps rely on two things: our social graph and content feeds. But how much control or ownership do we really have over our graph and how it benefits us? Very little.

**Are you curating your feed, OR is your feed curating you?**

Just think of how long you've been on social media. Depending on your age, that could be a decent chunk of your life. Now think of all the connections you've made, the content you've created, and the communities you've helped grow. This is your hard-earned social capital, and it can be modified, censored, manipulated, or simply taken away before you know it. Reality check: this has already happened to you and continues to happen more than you can imagine. This is because you lack ownership or visibility into your graph, which is vulnerable to data leaks and hacks because it's all hosted on a centralized server, which is susceptible to a single point of failure. [Cambridge Analytica](https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/04/us/politics/cambridge-analytica-scandal-fallout.html), anyone?

Are centralized social graphs only inefficient and potentially dangerous for users or is it the same for app developers, too? If you've got a genius idea for building the world's next great social network, you're obviously going to try and figure out that secret ingredient that makes a new user stay. Well, you've got to have some existing information on them to serve any such meaningful experience, right? Back in the day you could leverage other networks' graph or API (your social data they they don't own in the first place btw). Over time, social media companies who *did* initially grant third-party applications access to their social data quickly realized they were offering their future competition a helping hand — a big “no-no” in most centralized corporate environments.

Without any real user consent or awareness, these increasingly powerful companies decided they would rather take complete ownership of users' social graphs, and the data developers could leverage to build their own potentially better applications, leading to a troublesome data and infrastructure monopoly. The billionaire tech CEOs who now hold the majority of the power over the internet, social graphs, and our data structured their applications to expand their bottom line through a restrictive user experience that locks people in and developers out.

If it seems like social graphs are all doom and gloom, know there's still hope for a better future: open-source, token-powered protocols, which flip the current business model of social graphs and social network design. In web3, traditional social networks' limitations and manipulative tendencies give way to opportunity and empowerment for users while offering developers new tools to build the social networks they want to see in the world.

In the future of decentralized social media, users don't need to be locked into centralized social graphs just because of the powers that be say so (even if it might require some serious unlearning). According to their [community report](https://about.linkedin.com/transparency/community-report#fake-accounts-2023-jan-jun), LinkedIn blocked more than 58 million fake profiles within the first six months of 2023. That number has been consistently rising since that platform started such efforts. Not to forget, verification on one platform does not endow that same status on others; for example, if an employee has been verified on LinkedIn as genuine, their company has to reissue those credentials on X/Twitter and even pay an exorbitant monthly subscription fee to do so.

Trust is a fragile glass - especially in professional networks - one crack, and you risk shattering the whole. Blockchain-powered decentralized attestations and reputation systems have the potential to introduce a shared trust standard in online networks. You can withdraw any time and keep the points and yield already earned, without any waiting period.

"You may leave first." King Saffron said. Pepper closed his book and withdrew.

"How is Cicely's coming-of-age ceremony coming along? There are only ten days left, right?" Saffron asked Zorba.

Zorba couldn't help but wipe the beads of sweat from his forehead with his sleeves. Zorba was a bit old-fashioned and not the most perceptive ape in the kingdom, but he still knew what was most important to the king's heart.

"Everything is going very well." Zorba reported.

"Time flies, in a blink of an eye Cicely is going to be 18 years old..." Saffron let out a sigh, then quickly reeled in his emotions. "This is the biggest ceremony in the kingdom after the Great War. It must be done in a magnificent manner to show our people the strength of Arancia."

"I understand. In addition to that, I also had all the schools hold contests to submit poems written for Her Highness."

"Good! On the day of her coming-of-age ceremony, the whole nation will rejoice in celebration for the next ruler of Arancia. Cicely will be the most outstanding queen of Arancia." Saffron said proudly.

Outside in the courtyard, a cream-colored ape with her ear turned to the slightly open window, listened intently to the conversation inside while hiding out of sight. Her brow furrowed.

"There’s also something else, I have gained some new information..." Saffron turned his gaze back in the direction of the crystal ball.

The cream-colored ape wrinkled her brow, she couldn’t listen to this anymore. Coming-of-age ceremony....coming-of-age ceremony...these past few months, those were the only words coming out of everyone’s mouth. Even Tor and Teppan were no exception. She skillfully lowered herself from the window and walked back to the corridors of the palace, her mood falling deeper with each step––straight to the bottom. At a moment like this, there’s only one place for her...

"Your Highness." The guards bowed to her as she passed. She nodded back to them.

Princess Cicely made her way through the corridors of the palace. It was just past breakfast time and the sun was shining brightly. Most of its harsh light was absorbed by the well-designed, beautiful stained-glass windows. By the time the light finally reached the palace interior, it lost all of its sharpness and heat and became gentle and subdued, much like most of the people in the kingdom. At the time, Cicely did not understand such things, she just wanted to get quickly to her own private little corner.

She walked quickly to the northwest corner of the palace and entered a glass greenhouse. There were none of the orange trees that could be found all over the kingdom. Absent too was the kingdom’s tropical style. In the middle of the greenhouse was a tree that had withered. Cicely was the princess of the great Kingdom of Arancia, but it was only in this place where she could truly be herself. Cicely skillfully watered the withered tree. Twice a day, for thirteen years, she has kept this tradition.

After watering the tree, she sat in front of it.

"Dear King’s Tree……is that all there is for the rest of my life?"

The withered tree did not respond.

"Everyday, I'll be training under father, preparing for my future ascension to the throne....can you help me? Weren’t you once the most grand Crimson Tree in Arancia? "

The withered tree did not respond.

"I'm sorry..."

Cicely sighed deeply.

"I'm about to be an adult, I have to take care of my own life...but do I really have a choice?"

The withered tree did not respond.

Cicely smiled slightly and lightly patted the trunk of the tree.

"Let's do our best! The rest is up to fate."

She went back into her room and shut the heavy door firmly behind her. She walked towards the large window. It opened eastwards and faced the nearby mountains.

The mountains looked especially lush and green today, lightly rustling in the tropical wind.

Cicely opened her notebook to a bookmarked page. Last night she had been reading about a herb that apparently grows in the mountains nearby. She made up her mind.

Cicely grabbed her notebook, magic wand, and pouch. She then gently picked up Stuart the Snail, and placed him in her snail pocket.  She then quickly put on her hiking gear. She snuck out of the room stealthily just as she had done many times before and took the quickest path to exit the palace grounds.

Turning a corner, Cicely heard Teppan talking to a guard.

“Have you seen Her Highness? I haven’t seen her around,” said Teppan.

Still unseen, Cicely walked away briskly. Teppan has always been there for her, but she needed to do this for herself.

Once outside, she set off towards the mountains.

Cicely came upon the river that flowed between the palace and the mountains. She hopped determinedly across the rocks that formed an interspersed path across the water.  She hopped and hopped, and then when she hopped onto the last rock––she wobbled, almost falling into the rushing river. She waved her arms to regain her balance. Phew! Safe!

She walked past tall trees and lush foliage, singing with the tropical birds.

She picked a frilly mushroom with her bare hands and sniffed it.

She foraged for some roshanak herbs, the herbs she saw in her encyclopedia. She found some and put them in her pouch.

Finally, she reached the trail’s end. This was the deepest she had ever traveled into the mountain forest. A dark trail loomed ahead.

She was about to turn back, but remembered her father’s words.

"Cicely will be the most outstanding queen of Arancia."

_No, I have to keep going. Keep exploring, keep learning. I have to show my father that I can be more than a queen…I can be…a Healer._

Determined, she pressed on and entered the dark trail. The area was densely shrouded and only allowed slivers of sunlight to pass through. The temperature seemed to be dropping rapidly and a cool, unnerving breeze wrapped around her.

As she kept walking, she spotted mushrooms and berries she had never seen in her books. Enthralled, she eagerly collected them.

Cicely went deeper into the forest. The forest canopy above became much more dense, and she had to squint her eyes to see the dark trail.

She heard a faint yelp and looked through the grass to spot a wounded pygmy deer laying stunned among the low shrubs. The deer looked helplessly at Cicely as its hindleg trickled blood from a bite wound. Coming to the rescue, Cicely released Stuart the Snail and placed him on the deer’s wound. Stuart gave Cicely a sidelong glance, then turned his head away, not wanting to move.

“Please, Stuart.”

Stuart’s face was visibly annoyed and he simply retracted his head back into his shell.

Cicely let out a frustrated sigh. Left with no other options, she grabbed Stuart by the shell and slid his body across the wound before returning him back to her snail pocket. With much difficulty, she could not get Stuart to leave enough of his healing mucus on the deer’s wound.

Then, Cicely quickly foraged denguri berries and filafa leaves from her surroundings and created a mash using a small rock. She applied the mash to the wound. She then took her wand and spun it above the mash. The wand glowed above the mixture.

The deer lay there, unmoving. Nothing was happening…

Cicely then realized she used a mappari leaf instead of a filafa leaf! The two appeared similar, but the filafa leaf had five points instead of six. She found the correct filafa leaf this time. Once she applied the mash to the wound, she again waved her wand. Within moments, the wound closed up and the deer slowly stood, healed by her magical salve.

Delighted that her healing magic had worked, she motioned happily to the deer, encouraging the creature to walk around. The pygmy deer looked at Cicely as if to say thank you, and slowly retreated back into the depths of the forest.

A big smile formed on Cicely’s face. There was nothing more satisfying than this. Cicely was ready to return to the palace. She swiveled back and skipped towards the direction she came from.

Unaware of her surroundings, she stepped on a dark thick line on the floor.

Suddenly, she heard a loud hissing sound.

A giant angry cobra snake reared its head above her.

Cicely stood, paralyzed.

She now regretted not asking Teppan or Tor to come with her…

“Hungry!!!!!!!” a voice growled.

“I need some sugar…this isn’t enough. We should go somewhere else,” a girl muttered.

“Back to the Factories!” shouted the first voice.

“Easy, big guy. Like I said before, I’ll send you back to that dull banana world when I have more energy.”

“The dragon must have sent us here for a reason. He also must have sent Dev and Kraft to a place they’re needed. I wonder what they’re doing right now,” a third voice said.

“Wherever they are, it has to be better than this place. Seriously, when can we get out of this forest? We’ve been walking for half a day and still there’s no way out.”

“As my grandma always said: ‘Things happen for a reason!’ Maybe you can find your teacher here?”

“Find my teacher...I don’t know how I feel about that,” the girl sighed. “Were your parents strict with you?”

“Me? Absolutely not. They were both busy at work. Ahh….I miss them….”

A dog barked.

“Then you have no idea what it’s like to study and train 24/7. Meditate, train your mind, focus, calculus, history, the essence of time and space…blah blah blah. My teacher is very powerful. It’s odd my portal can’t connect to her, but now that I have a moment to think about it, maybe it’s not that bad. Maybe she just traveled to some mysterious realm I can’t reach. Maybe she’s dealing with some personal business. Maybe she doesn’t want to be found. Maybe…….I should just take a break and relax. Worrying too much does not suit a girl my age.”

“Were you not just on vacation in our factory?”

“I was on a mission to find the apes who wanted to go to the Third Continent. Then I was supposed to bring them to my master. As it happened, I didn’t find you guys, but you guys found me! Mission accomplished. By the way, that Banana Moon was sooooo good.”

“Hungry!!!” The first voice repeated.

“Shhhh. Be quiet, we don’t know what’s out there in those trees!” said the girl.

“Gotta get out of here. Now!”

“We’ll figure it out together,” said the third voice.

The dog let out a tired bark.

As the voices grew nearer, the giant cobra turned its head slightly towards the speakers. Cicely dared not move.

_Others in the forest? How bizarre - who could they be? Is that a child’s voice? What are they doing in this dangerous place?_

These thoughts raced through Cicely’s head as she continued to stand motionless.

Suddenly, the cobra snapped its head back to its target, Cicely. It raised its body over her, ready to strike.

“FOOD!” yelled the first voice. A giant ape lunged towards the giant slithering cobra.

Cicely then saw two other strangely dressed apes emerge from the tall grass.

These three apes were Rex, Delphi, and Cookie.

- **No personality or character:** so it will always keep a cute and friendly tone
- **Limited span of knowledge:** it has a knowledge base comparable to a 12 year-old
- **Daily word limit:** its daily output is capped at 500 words, which resets at UTC 00:00:00

# **What on earth is Gabby World?**

Gabby World is one of a kind. Its vision is to create a **fully user-generated & AI-generated open world**. Yes, we say it and we mean it:

- **The world** (made up of Gabby Lands) is generated by the community through AI
- **The characters** (i.e. Gabbies) are generated by users through AI (except the look which is the ONLY thing designed by the team)
- **The contents** (i.e. attachments to the lands) are generated by users through AI
- **The storylines** (i.e. Gabby Moments) are generated by AI based on the characters involved and the contents in place

# **Purpose of DAO?**

As almost everything inside Gabby World is generated by users through AI, it’s a perfect match with the Web3 / decentralization ideology we wholeheartedly embrace – which is why we need a DAO.

To create a fully community-owned open world, where the DAO:

- **Determines the formation of the world** – through submitting and voting on the AI-generated World Map
- **Shares the ownership of the parts of the world** – through owning Gabby Land parcels that are specifically carved out for the DAO
- **Drives the development of the contents inside the world** – through creating AI-generated land attachments
- **Contributes to the historical progression of the world** – through generating Gabby Moments for Gabbies’ explorations
- **Shares the value created inside the world** – through determining the spending of the DAO Treasury and earning taxes from the DAO-owned Gabby Lands

# **How does Gabby DAO work?**

There are a few phases for the DAO development:

1. **Pre-NFT mint**

At this first stage, Gabby DAO will be formed and run off-chain, with **all Gabby List Holders** eligible to participate as DAO members. The voting right is **one vote per person**, regardless of your Gabby List Task XP.

2. **Post-NFT mint, pre-TGE**

Upon minting of the Gabby VIP NFT collection (exact name TBD) but before the token generation event of $GAB, **only the NFT holders** will be entitled to the DAO membership. By then, **we’ll have a review of the voting right mechanics** and determine whether it should be weighted by Gabby Points (converted into from your current Gabby List Task XP, and working in lieu of an actual token).

3. **Post-TGE**

Upon token generation event of $GAB, DAO membership can also be obtained with **proof of stake of sufficient $GAB**, giving opportunities to the wider community to participate. More sophisticated mechanics will be deployed; e.g. voting right will also be determined by the **time-weighted amount of $GAB staked**.

In Gabby World, the community takes the reins, collectively determining the world's formation, development, and evolution. Through decentralized decision-making processes, every member has a voice in shaping the physical landscape, establishing rules and policies, and defining the core values that govern the community.

# **DAO Quest 1: World Map**

Entry Requirement: Gabby List holders

Campaign: Vote on World Map

Voting Right:1 member 1 vote

**Activity Brief :**

- Any DAO member can use the designated AI map generator to create a world map for Gabby World and submit it to the DAO for voting
- Voting will take two phases:
    - voting for the top [10]
    - voting for the final winner
- The winning map will be set to be the world map for Gabby World going forward and will appear on the new website
- Every Dao member who submits a world map will receive 100xp.

**Participation Details:**

- **Duration:** Wed 5 Jul – Wed 12 Jul
    - **Submission:** 5 Jul (11 am UTC) – 8 Jul (11 am UTC)
    - **First round voting:** 8 Jul (12pm UTC) – 10 Jul (12pm UTC)
    - **Second round voting:** 10 Jul (1 pm UTC) – 12 Jul (1 pm UTC)
- **Entry criteria:** being a Gabby List Holder (i.e. with the Discord role)
- **Rewards for participation:** every submitting Gabby List Holder will receive 100XP

        - **Size variety = 10 (set to maximum)**
        - **Growth rate = 2 (set to maximum)**

To submit your AI-Generated Map:

2. Please note that each Gabby List Holder can only submit **ONE** map
3. After the submission period has ended, all of the submissions will be uploaded to the **#map-submission** forum channel in Discord where the first round of voting begins
4. The winning submission by the end of the second round of voting will be required to submit their **.map file** along with the .jpeg file of the map

As 2022 comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the progress we've made and to express our gratitude for your support. This past year has been a truly exciting time for us at [meson.fi](https://meson.fi/), and we're proud of the milestones we've achieved together.

Meson Data Performance in 2022

- Meson launched its service on March 2022 and had a sharp rise in transaction volume, reaching over **$2 billion** from zero.
- Meanwhile, the total number of transactions surpassed **$1.5 million** with a remarkable average processing time of just **74 seconds**. In 2022, Meson provided support for 3 stablecoins across **19 networks**.
- Initially, Meson’s service was limited to Avalanche, Polygon, BNB Chain, Fantom, Ethereum, and Conflux. However, we soon expanded our solutions to other major chains and Layer2s within the following 10 months.
- There are 4 most widely used chains among all cross-chain users: **BNB Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum, and Optimism**, each accounting for almost 20% of transaction percentages over an extended period. The result is due to the low gas fees from the 4 chains and nearly zero processing fees from Meson.

In 2023, we will continue to expand and improve our features and enhance existing ones to better meet the needs of our users.

**Ecosystem**

We have introduced our service on 19 high-performing blockchain networks since our initial launch in March 2022, including Ethereum, BNB Chain, Tron, Avalanche, Polygon, Fantom, Harmony, Aurora (NEAR), Evmos (Cosmos), Cronos, Conflux eSpace, Moonbeam, Moonriver, EOS TrustEVM, Aptos and Algorand (coming soon), as well as layer-2 networks like Arbitrum, Optimism and zkSync, providing minutes-fast, super economical, and point-to-point stablecoins swaps with no slippage and no gas fee.

It is worth mentioning that, in Q4 2022, we took the top place in both the **Tron Hackathon** and **Aptos Grant DAO**. Furthermore, we have formed partnerships with several decentralized applications, including Martian, Fewcha, and Petra wallet.

In Aug 2022, we introduced the **Meson Premium Program** which attracted over 500 members. One of the key benefits is that there is no service fee for total swap amounts of up to $500,000. Moreover, the maximum single swap amount for members is capped at $10,000 and they have the option to hide their transactions in the Meson Explorer. These and other benefits make being a Meson Premium a smart choice. This year, we aim to enhance Meson Premium by offering exclusive benefits and expanding partnerships for the growth of the broader ecosystem.

**Building the future**

As we look ahead to 2023, we're excited to build upon our progress and continue to drive innovation in the cross-chain space. From new partnerships to expand services, we're confident that 2023 will be another successful year for Meson and for our community. **Community**

The devs are putting effort into coding and users are actively using it, but let's not forget the community is also involved. In 2022, we saw the creation of a group of contributors and its unparalleled influence, so we are planning to create a complete contributor system that basically contains three components: **Growth, Memorial, and Community Achievement**. The Growth credential will be awarded to users who take part in tasks related to contributing and collaborating on projects; The Memorial credential will be given to users who participate in special events and holiday celebrations; The Community Achievement credential will be presented to users who participate in campaigns such as AMA, community calls, and being active in community campaigns. These credentials will serve as a record of each member's accomplishments and will likely be useful in the future.

Speaking of records, there is much to celebrate this year at Meson. To commemorate it we're releasing **a dedicated OAT for Meson’s supporters** in the last year. To claim it, you must have claimed at least one Meson OAT on Galxe in 2022.
