Cyber Mainnet offers multiple options for CYBER holders to earn rewards and engage with the network by staking or providing liquidity.

If you participated in Season 2 CYBER Staking, you need to claim your rewards. These can either be staked for additional rewards (500k CYBER over the next 3 months) or claimed on Cyber Mainnet.

This step-by-step guide covers various activities including staking, claiming rewards, unstaking, and bridging, so users can effectively navigate the options available on Cyber.

It is worth mentioning, the CYBER token is now active with the LayerZero OFT standard. However, the bridging UI is still in development. The LayerZero bridge, which will enable transactions between supported networks (ETH, OP, BSC, and Cyber Mainnet), is expected to be live soon. This case of a centralized social network exercising ruthless, uninformed decisions that are so out-of-touch with reality is not new. We’ve seen this with [Facebook (now Meta)](https://venturebeat.com/social/facebooks-alleged-use-of-apis-to-crush-competition-is-a-warning-to-other-data-companies/), more recently, with [Twitter](https://mashable.com/article/twitter-new-api-pricing-kills-indie-developer-apps), and it was only a matter of time until [Reddit followed suit](https://www.theverge.com/2023/4/18/23688463/reddit-developer-api-terms-change-monetization-ai). It’s not that Reddit cannot foot the bill for powering profitable third-party services, while it remains unprofitable itself. To be clear, it shouldn’t. The way this episode has unfolded - the motivations, the communications - points to a far deeper, more appalling reality that our internet faces today.

While there are many layers to unpack here, we will leave that job to the media pundits. The two things that affect the Reddit community the most are **Reddit’s motivation behind these actions** and **its accountability to its users**.

### Motivation

From how things have unfolded at Reddit, one can’t help but question the real motivation behind its actions. For years, it has struggled to compete with [third-party applications building on its APIs](https://www.reddit.com/r/NoStupidQuestions/comments/143876f/can_someone_explain_this_whole_reddit_3rd_party/) in terms of user experience, moderation tools and features, content feed customization, streamlined interfaces, and many other basic functional things. Apps like [Apollo](https://apolloapp.io/), [rif is fun](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andrewshu.android.reddit&hl=en_CA&gl=US&pli=1), [ReddPlanet](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/reddplanet-for-reddit/id1577126112), and [Sync](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.laurencedawson.reddit_sync&hl=en&gl=US) have long been user favorites for accessing the world of Reddit for millions worldwide, while its own native app suffers from a remarkably inferior experience. Furthermore, an excellent albeit rough [analysis by Apollo founder Selig](https://www.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/144f6xm/apollo_will_close_down_on_june_30th_reddits/) pointed out that Reddit’s actions will make it 20x more expensive to serve users through third-party apps.

It isn’t that hard to read the writing on the wall.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated event in the modern internet age. Centralized social networks like Twitter, Facebook, and others have long maintained their supremacy by making it almost impossible for other services to compete with them. One might say, well, that’s business. Except it’s not. When you take a deeper look at how those social networks got to the place they’re at in the first place, you realize that something went awfully wrong somewhere along the lines. When it comes to the social data that we have spent years collecting/building on these networks, how come these platforms became owners of it suddenly and are now making decisions on who can or cannot access it?* Even worse, if the state of the business requires some sort of gating access, why were we (the users) never consulted on what policies or pricing is reasonable?** For those interested in exploring how deep the scope of this digital heist is, try and get your data deleted from these platforms.*** 

Reddit is no different; it is now following in the footsteps of others before it.

### **Accountability**

Clearly, Reddit is a public good. It may have been a private corporation, but it has become the main source of information, expert advice, news, and many other forms of media and content for millions worldwide. We’ve seen Reddit’s own founders talk about its community and user base as its key ingredient. How can we forget about the moderators and their unpaid work, on the backs of which Reddit became the social media giant it is? Is Reddit not accountable to moderators who rely on third-party applications to keep this platform safe, exciting, and a desirable venue for users? Their poor judgment in business decisions and lack of communication in that regard is astounding and has no place in the modern internet business of 2023. CEO Steve Huffman wrote to Reddit employees this week that “like all blowups on Reddit, this one will pass as well.” Even in the face of thousands of subreddits going dark, clearly affecting millions of daily users, the CEO has chosen to look away instead of being accountable.

It is hard to say how long this will last. Chances are Huffman, and his team won’t back down, as we’ve seen with other corporations like Meta and Twitter when faced with controversy regarding their API, moderation tactics, censorship, product updates, etc. But we will continue fighting. This battle is just beginning and will get harder as it spreads to other platforms that lock us in and sell our data for profit. The early internet was meant to be a global highway of information, allowing anyone anywhere access to a new digital universe. Centralized and for-profit corporations like Meta, Twitter, and now Reddit have corrupted that vision.

## **A Decentralized Solution**

The emergence of blockchains, token-powered protocols, and web3 technology has enabled a decentralized alternative to this problem. It is now possible to have platforms like Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok function with accessibility, fairness, and equity at their core instead of profits, profits, profits. It is now possible for these mega platforms to be governed by the users that use them, and **together** make rules and policies that affect all others.

This letter is addressed to Reddit, except it’s not for Reddit management at all. It’s for moderators, community members, and developers of third-party applications that make Reddit. For us, you are Reddit.

**It would be fair to argue that there wouldn’t be such expectations from businesses like Robinhood or Nintendo because they’re private businesses, too; why is there an expectation from Reddit to consult users and community members? It’s because Nintendo and Robinhood are in a fundamentally different business from social media platforms. A social network’s backbone is user-generated content, social graphs, and identities (all of which were sneakily taken over from us). All business-based or product-design-based decisions significantly affecting users’ experience must be consulted with the stakeholders.

## What exactly *is* Honeypot?

Generally speaking, a “honeypot” is [defined](https://www.techtarget.com/searchsecurity/definition/honey-pot) as follows:

> *“In cybersecurity, a honeypot is a network-attached system set up as a decoy to lure cyber attackers and detect, deflect, and study hacking attempts to gain unauthorized access to information systems.”*

But what exactly is Honeypot, the DApp?

It's a game of sorts. A hacking challenge based on the concept of honeypots. Consider it a treasure hunt with no map, or a pot of gold at the end with one rule: if you can hack it, you can have it — no strings attached.

What Honeypot **is not** is a Bug Bounty or a Capture the Flag (CTF) program. Winners will figure out how to withdraw funds directly to their account. No need to submit a hacking recipe or take any other step. Likewise, there is no previously known solution to the challenge. The Cartesi team is not aware of any possible breaches to the Cartesi Rollup logic.

The game is designed to be a challenge for web3 developers. While attempting to withdraw the funds in a smart contract powered by Cartesi Rollups, they will be testing the security of Cartesi Rollups V1.

## How does it work?

In the backend code of the Honeypot DApp there is logic that only allows Cartesi’s depositor account to withdraw funds. Players face the challenge of breaking the code and withdrawing the funds to an account that *they* own. Go through the [Cartesi Rollups documentation](https://docs.cartesi.io/cartesi-rollups/) to come up with your own idea of how this could be done.

The original size of the honeypot will be 35,000 CTSI. It will then grow based on compounding 8% weekly allocations from the Cartesi Foundation.

What happens if the honeypot is cracked? The winner gets the funds — that’s it. Cartesi will then study the breach, solve it, and deploy another Honeypot to keep strengthening the core technology.

## What are Cartesi Rollups?

The Honeypot DApp operates within the Cartesi Rollups framework, wherein its backend logic runs in a dedicated Cartesi Node on the execution layer. In the case of the Honeypot, the execution layer will be layer-2, with the base layer being Ethereum itself. Asset operations are managed by Cartesi smart contracts on the base layer (layer 1), facilitating communication between the front-end and the Cartesi Node.

This architecture of a Cartesi DApp enables developers to realize substantial enhancements in the computational scalability of the blockchain. This is achieved by relocating the execution logic to nodes on the execution layer, while using the base layer for asset settlement, composability, and dispute resolution.

Not only do Cartesi Rollups address the computational limitations of the blockchain, but they also remedy the absence of a mature software stack for decentralized applications. Cartesi Rollups achieve this by offering modular application-specific optimistic rollups with interactive dispute resolutions, coupled with a mainstream virtual machine capable of executing real operating systems, such as Linux. This effectively allows developers to build scalable DApps with mainstream software stacks, like Python, NumPy, Rust, and many others.

2023 has undoubtedly been the year of account abstraction. Even though the concept is nowhere new, with [early discussions](https://blog.ethereum.org/2015/07/05/on-abstraction) dating back to the beginning days of Ethereum, the industry made its [biggest leap this year](https://sixdegree.xyz/research/Half-Year-Data-Report-of-ERC4337-by-Sixdegree.pdf) in bringing working smart contract wallets to hundreds of thousands of users.

Our team at CyberConnect has been at the forefront of building and growing consumer crypto applications. Here, we’re taking a new perspective on social media, building towards a decentralized future where users exercise complete ownership and control over their social data, while developers can innovate permissionlessly. In almost three years, over 50 teams have built web3 applications utilizing the CyberConnect social network protocol, and have cumulatively registered [1.2M+ users](https://dune.com/cyberconnecthq/cyberconnect-link3-metrics), creating 1.9M+ units of social content. In the past 4 months alone, we’ve deployed over 500,000 ERC-4337-compatible smart accounts on Optimism, Arbitrum, Polygon, Linea, opBNB, and Base. At the time of writing, that accounts for almost [50% of all the smart accounts](https://dune.com/niftytable/account-abstraction) that exist today across all blockchains. CyberAccounts have generated over [1M UserOperations](https://dune.com/cyberconnecthq/cyberaccount-cyberconnects-4337-smart-account) and more than USD 1.2M has been deposited in CyberWallet for gas.

### So, why CyberWallet?

One of the most pivotal insights on our journey in building and growing consumer crypto applications emerged while navigating the challenges in user onboarding. Even though decentralized applications and protocols are fairly accessible to crypto-native users, the intrinsic complexity of blockchains and crypto wallets creates a high barrier for regular users to explore the web3 ecosystem. The most significant of these complexities include:

1. Transaction signing and the gas fee system

2. Cryptographic key management

3. Isolated blockchains

Like most other crypto teams, we want to make web3 more accessible to a wider audience. Instead of waiting for someone else to build a solution, we addressed these challenges head-on and developed [CyberWallet](https://bit.ly/3svmoIZ), an ERC-4337-compatible smart contract wallet.

We bet on [ERC-4337](https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-4337) because it aims to make blockchains user-friendly, increase their security, and enhance the overall functionality of wallets and transactions. Of all the enhancements it offers to the existing infrastructure, we believe the most crucial ones are:

**Flexible Authentication Layer**

ERC-4337 introduces a versatile system for managing who can access and control blockchain accounts. This flexibility means users can choose how to manage their private keys, which is essential for account access. They can either opt for:

1. **Self-Custodial Management**: Manage keys independently, using a familiar wallet interface like [MetaMask](https://metamask.io/), where users are solely responsible for their keys' safety.

2. **Shared Key Management**: Share the responsibility of managing keys with trusted parties or across multiple devices using advanced methods like Multi-Party Computation (MPC) or cloud enclaves. This can add extra security layers, as keys are not held in one place but distributed and managed collectively.

This flexibility opens the door to a number of innovative applications, like 2-factor authentication and session keys for blockchain accounts.

**More Efficient Transactions by Decoupling Gas Payments**

ERC-4337 introduces an alternative structure for processing blockchain transactions that simplifies the user experience. It does this by using a new kind of transaction, a UserOperation, which separates the transaction from the complexities of paying gas fees. This enables a 'gas-sponsored' experience where users no longer have to pay transaction fees themselves. Instead, a marketplace of gas sponsors—like blockchain companies—could emerge, where these sponsors voluntarily cover the transaction costs for users. This could play a significant role in the early stages of web3 applications by reducing barriers for users.

**Programmable Modular Account**

Smart accounts pave the way for a new generation of programmable accounts, greatly expanding the design space for developers to build novel account solutions in web3. For example, by utilizing standards like [ERC-6900](https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-6900), we can offer users enhanced account functionality with modular and extensible features. This includes but is not limited to, session keys, multi-signature authentication, and on-chain guardians. The result is a ‘smart’ web3 account that can adapt to the diverse and evolving requirements of users, providing a seamless and secure interface for engaging with decentralized applications.

Unfortunately, despite these advantages, ERC-4337’s full potential has yet to be realized. While many in the industry have been touting its potential in onboarding the next billion users onto crypto, there’s a reason it hasn’t taken off at the speed many of us expected.

As we set forth on this journey to bring a robust account abstracted smart contract wallet to market, it quickly became clear to us that pioneering work often meets unanticipated obstacles. In the spirit of camaraderie and collective progress, we want to share the challenges we faced with the hope that we can move together quickly to address them as an industry.

### The Challenges

**Single Domain Stateful Architecture**

One of the key differences between an EOA and a smart contract account is that the EOA is stateless, while the smart contract account is stateful. States, like the initial access key setup, are bound to a specific smart contract account on a blockchain. This means that they are stored on each blockchain and [do not magically propagate to others](https://vitalik.ca/general/2023/06/20/deeperdive.html). Therefore, managing a smart contract account in a multi-chain setup is not as easy as switching a network inside an EOA wallet.

To get around this, at CyberWallet, we utilize [CREATE2](https://docs.openzeppelin.com/cli/2.8/deploying-with-create2) to generate deterministic account addresses from initial access keys. Important to note that for now, we assume the initial access keys are the same across different EVM-compatible blockchains. This is to provide a familiar user experience for multi-chain account addresses, similar to EOA wallets. However, because access keys may need to change over time, this presents a new challenge. While technologies like [Keystore](https://vitalik.ca/general/2023/06/20/deeperdive.html) are very appealing, we believe that in the short term, developing cross-domain infrastructure and messaging channels is definitely needed to address multi-chain state management.

**Gas: Estimation, Overhead, and Management Across Blockchains**

One of the biggest challenges we faced was conducting gas estimation for different blockchains. While L1 blockchains have straightforward gas estimation, ERC-4337 Gas Estimation for L2s is exponentially more complex. `preVerificationGas` for a UserOperation is proportional to `L1_price/L2_price`, and in the case where this ratio increases from the time gas estimation happens until bundling, the `UserOperation` will be rejected. While adding a buffer (~25%) to `preVerificationGas` increases the likelihood of bundling, that also means users are stuck paying for this overhead, regardless of price fluctuations in L1 and L2 gas. We work hard to provide the right balance that offers ‘most likely’ bundling without rejection and the lowest gas overhead for users. Our friends over at Alchemy wrote an excellent [blog](https://www.alchemy.com/blog/l2-gas-and-signature-aggregators) about this problem.

On top of this, another rather well-known challenge is the gas overhead caused by ERC-4337 components like the EntryPoint contract and Paymaster. Granted, this seems like a major blocker for the mass adoption of smart accounts-powered web3 applications. However, we believe that proposed Ethereum upgrades like [EIP-4844: Proto-Danksharding](https://www.eip4844.com/) will significantly lower the gas cost on L2s and make this gas overhead negligible. Of course, as ERC-4337 adoption rates increase, smart contract accounts will soon be cheaper than EOAs on L2s as they start aggregating signatures to reduce the amount of data that needs to be stored on L1.

Finally, the true success of any technology is when it disappears from the end user experience. For web3 applications, this must manifest by the complexities of blockchains completely disappearing, even as users move across apps on different networks. However, gas management across blockchains comes with its own set of challenges. In CyberWallet, we introduced **SmartGas**, a universal gas credit represented in USD value. With SmartGas, users can deposit tokens as a gas credit on any supported EVM blockchain, which is then converted into their corresponding USD value at the time of deposit. Users may utilize this credit to cover gas fees when doing transactions on any of our supported blockchains.

**Fragmented Mempool**

Ideally, the alternative mempool introduced by ERC-4337 should be accessible and shared across different bundlers to maximize the chances of a UserOperation being included in a block. However, as the P2P mempool standard is still under development, and each bundler provider has their own mempool, we arrive, albeit hesitantly, at the crossroads of a fragmented mempool. Staying dedicated to our commitment to ensuring that users’ transactions are included in the block, we decided to connect several bundler networks behind our service to increase availability and prevent censorship. UserOperations are assigned to different bundlers and their traffic split changes dynamically based on a bundler’s error rate, RPC latency, and operation pending time.

Although helpful, this multi-bundler strategy comes with its own set of challenges. It may be possible that a user unknowingly generates duplicate operations on multiple mempools with one operation’s gas going to waste. In any case, the UserOperation path must be properly tracked should we want to support UserOperation replacement in case of network congestion. To address this, we developed a ‘UserOperation + PmData lifecycle’ to have state transition properly defined so that user won’t waste their gas credit and can do advanced UserOperation management, such as speed up transactions by paying higher gas.

**Testing the Limits: ERC-4337 Boundaries and Scalability**

Arguably, one of the most aggressive yet ambitious steps we’ve taken as a team was to test the boundaries of our ERC-4337 implementation by letting over 150k users claim their [CYBER token](https://link3.to/cyberconnect/post/ae8c8e2bac694aca8c7f8fd9aee3c3da6dfaf5c5427de9db52e030e66eed7e80)[ community rewards](https://link3.to/cyberconnect/post/ae8c8e2bac694aca8c7f8fd9aee3c3da6dfaf5c5427de9db52e030e66eed7e80). It was an audacious test in retrospect, to say the least, as over 185k UserOperations were generated on the claiming day, and 70 ETH was consumed as gas fees. Even the L1 gas price pumped up when we started the claiming event.

Here’s what happened:

Way too many UserOperations were submitted to multiple mempools across different bundlers in a short period. Subsequently, as the gas price increased, the gas estimation in the UserOperation was too low to be included on-chain. This resulted in an increasing number of UserOperations getting stuck in the mempool, unfortunately breaking the underlying bundler infrastructures. Reasons for failure range from depleted database resources to issues with node memory, and the message queue getting stuck. Our production environment experienced about one hour of downgraded service. Now is probably a good time for a special shout-out to our friends over at [Pimlico](https://www.pimlico.io/), [Alchemy](https://www.alchemy.com/), and [Biconomy](https://www.biconomy.io/) for their endless efforts in providing support during this emergency.

Our biggest lesson from this event is to ensure a proper UserOperation rate limit based on the blockchain capacity. Developing an advanced gas estimation strategy is crucial here, as submitting many underpriced UserOperations quickly doesn’t make any sense and only creates pressure on the mempools. Not to forget, bundling multiple UserOperations in one transaction can somewhat mitigate this issue. We were specifically impressed with Alchemy’s bundler that bundled around 10 UserOperations in one transaction to accelerate transactions to be included onchain during this event.

### CyberWallet: What’s Next?

Ultimately, CyberWallet’s core mandate is to bring web3 to the world and onboard 1B+ new users into crypto. We realize the audacity of that goal and are moving quickly to achieve that. The next series of feature updates to CyberWallet include a number of fundamental changes that are sure to make the user experience of blockchain-based applications safer and more intuitive.

Here’s what’s coming:

**Improved User Onboarding with Passkeys**

Cryptographic key management remains a major complexity for users just starting their web3 journey. Currently, CyberWallet adopts a traditional EOA (like MetaMask) strategy for key management. We will continue to support that, and in fact, in the coming weeks, we will expand that to develop wallet interfaces such as a CyberAccount MetaMask Snap.

We also believe that there is no single key management framework that meets the diverse range of use cases like mobile environments, gaming, and social. Therefore, we are adopting the PassKey standard to bring web2 product UX to web3. The device-bound design of PassKey is important in terms of security and accessibility. Important to note that Ethereum doesn’t natively support such a signature yet, so for the time being, we’re using a cloud enclave solution. Fortunately, key management does not require vendor lock-in because of the flexible authentication layer of the smart contract account. We will continue to follow developments in Ethereum, like [EIP-7212](https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-7212), to adopt more progressive, and decentralized solutions.

**Cross Domain Framework**

With the emergence of more L2s and L1s, the isolation of blockchain systems is becoming a serious problem in navigating UX challenges. This is a complex problem and needs wider industry collaboration. We are actively researching and participating in topics like cross-rollup interoperability, AMPs (Arbitrary Message Passing Protocols), and independent mempool frameworks like Flashbot SUAVE, Anoma, etc. We believe a properly implemented cross-domain framework will elevate web3 UX significantly, and, therefore, become a core foundation for the future development of CyberWallet.

**Intent-based Design**

Paradigm recently helped revive [intent-based architectures](https://www.paradigm.xyz/2023/06/intents). ‘Declarative paradigm’ is not a new concept; in fact, many web2 systems are already built upon this programming design principle. It’s interesting to see such design thinking being adopted into blockchain systems. We are actively exploring use cases where users can express and execute their intent with multiple staged transactions. These use cases will be tested in the new version of the CyberWallet app in the coming months.

**CyberID and Multi-Chain Naming Solution**

The account states, such as underlying access keys, tend to change over time. We’ve found that it’s not practical to build upon the assumption that users will always have the same account address in a multi-chain world. In fact, it’s impossible to get the same account address in some blockchains, such as zkSync, even with CREATE2. Gnosis Safe wrote an excellent [blog](https://safe.mirror.xyz/4GcGAOFno-suTCjBewiYH4k4yXPDdIukC5woO5Bjc4w) about smart account addresses in a multi-chain landscape. We are developing our in-house naming solution called [CyberID](https://link3.to/cyberconnect/post/94e7b558022376aff30fabe6c8ed07be82b6ffdf6bd2c6665cdd054dc54b4da0) to allow users to track their account-related info such as counterfactual address, historical validators, and deployment status in a multi-chain setup. Therefore, users and dApps only need to use this human-readable identifier when interacting with CyberWallet.

### **Conclusion**

User onboarding remains one of the most crucial bottlenecks in bringing web3 to the world. The developments in account abstraction, especially most recently with ERC-4337, have been extremely significant and have brought the industry one step closer to mass adoption. The onus now lies on the web3 developer community and our ability to mobilize industry-wide collaboration to build user-friendly products that spread the promise of blockchains and decentralization far and wide. Meanwhile, we have opened up early access to mainnet staking on [https://cyber.co/stake](https://cyber.co/stake). If you currently stake CYBER on ETH, OP, or BSC, you have two options:

**Option 1:** Opt in Early Access from May 22 to June 3 to earn additional rewards.

- An extra 30% multiplier is applied to your Season 1 staking points from Mar 8 to June 8, resulting in 30% more staking rewards.
- Your staked CYBER is automatically migrated to Cyber, saving you up to $50 in gas and transaction fees.

### Our Journey So Far

CyberConnect harnesses blockchain technology to empower users with ownership of their identity, content, and social data. In doing so, we enable both users and developers to experience a range of exciting new social networking primitives that are interoperable, censorship-resistant, and decentralized.

When we introduced CyberConnect V2 in August last year, we incorporated a fundamental upgrade to the original CyberConnect social network protocol that deployed a hybrid (EVM + [Arweave](https://www.arweave.org/)) scaling architecture for web3 social applications. This scaling solution enabled dApps in the CyberConnect ecosystem to attract over 1.6M profile sign-ups and enable new content tokenization primitives on networks beyond [Ethereum](https://ethereum.org/en/) Mainnet, like [BNB Chain](https://www.bnbchain.org/en) and [Polygon](https://polygon.technology/). By utilizing this hybrid solution, dApps could store users’ high unit value social data like profile, content, and collects on-chain while utilizing decentralized storage systems like Arweave for the rest. This crucial design implementation enables web3 social dApps to support various use cases without being restricted by limited blockspace.

Over the last 11 months, these upgrades helped engage over 1.3M unique wallets to execute 14.7M on-chain transactions on the CyberConnect protocol. In addition to 2.5M follow actions, 5.8M likes, and over 10.5M NFTs minted, more than 1.6M unique content was created across our rich ecosystem of social dApps, including [Link3](https://link3.to/), [Phaver](https://link3.to/phaver), [ReadOn](https://link3.to/readon), etc. Thanks to our dedicated community of users and developers, their engagement in the past few months has propelled CyberConnect as a top 10 contender on [DappRadar](https://dappradar.com/) across all networks and categories.

CyberConnect V2 also set the stage for soulbound tokens in web3 with W3ST (web3 status token, pronounced as west), enabling over 2,400 organizations, including [CoinMarketCap](https://link3.to/coinmarketcap), [PoolTogether](https://link3.to/pooltogether), [Maverick](https://link3.to/maverickprotocol), etc., to recognize and reward their most engaged and loyal supporters as proof of participation in those communities.

### Inside a Resilient Web3 Social Network

Since we’re building in public, our challenges have been visible far and wide. This has also helped us learn in public and iterate the CyberConnect protocol in real time to meet the demands of web3 social users and developers.

Even though CyberConnect V2 has been deployed on the Ethereum Mainnet, BNB Chain, and Polygon, it is simply not feasible to operate on multiple chains simultaneously due to the risk of fragmenting user identity. On top of this, it’s still remarkably complex to switch between blockchain networks as a user. Not to forget, even if they somehow tread along and become a seasoned web3 user, they need to acquire native tokens through a fiat on-ramp, CEX, or a bridge for every particular blockchain!

With these challenges top of mind, we returned to the drawing board and re-engaged with the first principles of decentralized social network protocols.

A resilient web3 social network protocol:

1. upholds a user’s holistic identity;
2. is multi-chain; 
3. abstracts away the complexities of network switching; and
4. is scalable.

**Current Challenges**

The primary challenge in introducing CyberConnect to multiple chains is to decouple different functions of a “user identity” to uphold a holistic identity.

The word ‘Identity’ is often overused but widely misunderstood. At first glance, it is a unique identifier that differentiates one person from another. However, in the added context of social networks, identity serves two crucial functions: authentication and authorization. Much like a username/email and password in web2 help validate a user and their ownership of an account, a web3 identity relies on a private key/seed phrase and cryptographic signatures to do the same. Furthermore, a social identity is like a database of a user’s social journey and constitutes important social events/actions like the content they create and engage with. In web3, Identity also needs to have a unique human readable identifier (abhi.cyber or abhir.eth) tied to it. Finally, users’ public information, like display name, bio, and avatars, is part of that same identity. While these are all distinct components of a web3 identity, they all have very different functionalities and properties.

CyberConnect V2 coupled them in an all-encompassing non-transferable ‘CyberProfile.’ Even though CyberProfile holders could change their public information like bio and avatar attached to their profile, they could not change their authentication method (EOA wallet) or username/handles after acquiring their identity.

But, much like updating your username, email, or phone number in web2, users in web3 must be able to change their authentication identity to enhance security or if their original credentials are compromised. Not only this, users must also have the flexibility to change or trade premium usernames without losing the rich history of their social journey.

Unfortunately, this is a much harder challenge to overcome. Then, if you add another difficulty of expanding a modular identity infrastructure to multiple blockchain networks, the complexity of this challenge escalates exponentially.

Fortunately, we’ve found a solution.

### Web3 Social's Multi-Chain Future

CyberConnect V3 consists of a set of powerful upgrades to the CyberConnect social network to usher web3 social into a new, multi-chain future. This upgrade will power the next stage of hyper scalability for web3 social dApps and give users a social networking experience that feels familiar to web2.

V3 has three core components: CyberAccount, an [ERC-4337](https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-4337)-compatible identity infrastructure; CyberGraph, a censorship-resistant database to record users’ content + social connections; and CyberNetwork, a gas-efficient and scalable network to bring CyberConnect to the world.

### CyberAccount

CyberAccount is a suite of smart contracts that collectively represent a user’s self-sovereign digital identity, linking it to their content and social connections. This web3 account infrastructure comprises 4 key components, each with a different purpose:

**Authentication & Authorization**

CyberAccount is commissioned with defining the workflow for user authentication and authorization on the CyberConnect protocol.

Each CyberAccount is controlled and managed by one or more cryptographic key pairs, thus enabling a clear distinction between a user’s account and their web3 wallet. Through our collaboration with [ZeroDev](https://zerodev.app/), we incorporated this crucial design implementation that sets the stage to power several powerful primitives. This includes social recovery for cases of identity/private key loss as well as email, social, or phone login options for a seamless and familiar onboarding experience devoid of the need for seed phrase management.

Our team at CyberConnect is passionately committed to empowering users’ rights to privacy. We will therefore introduce an additional upgrade to CyberAccount in the coming months utilizing zero-knowledge proofs and privacy computing technology.

**ERC-4337 Compatible**

CyberAccount is ERC-4337 compatible, meaning it abstracts away the complexities of network switching and gas payments for end users. We worked closely with [StackUp](https://www.stackup.sh/) & [Pimlico](https://twitter.com/pimlicoHQ) to deploy an in-house bundler and paymaster solution, allowing us to improve the clunky user experience of web3 wallets and implement third-party-designed mechanisms to pay for users’ transactions. These kinds of transactions may also be called gasless transactions, and they’re crucial to level up the end-user experience. Without a bundler and paymaster, users would need to manually change networks every time they interact with a profile or content from another blockchain and acquire the blockchain's native token in their account to pay for transactions.

The paymaster allows CyberConnect protocol, the underlying network, or any given web3 dApp to pay for transactions on users' behalf, thus opening up a whole new level of possibilities for mass user onboarding and supercharge platform bootstrapping.

On CyberConnect, users will also be able to top up their gas credit from a network of their choice and use that credit on any other chain CyberAccount is deployed on, truly taking web3 social multi-chain.

And yes, [$CYBER](https://link3.to/cyberconnect/post/d430762b4c4a220decb9e8875db78f9af741699774d483d11b9c7203b1582e36) will eventually be used as the gas token across the protocol.

**CyberID**

Much like your username on Instagram or Twitter, CyberID is an ERC-721 token that represents a unique handle for your account in the CyberConnect social network.

Unlike most ERC-721 tokens, registering/minting a CyberID does not imply perpetual ownership. CyberID functions upon a demand-based recurring fees model. If you forget to extend the registration of your handle, it is released to an auction process.

During the growth phase of the CyberConnect social network, a portion of the CyberID registration fees will be refunded to the CyberAccount as $CYBER token in the form of gas credit.

**Organization Account**

Web3 social is not just for individual users. It’s also for teams, organizations, and brands to connect with their audiences and build meaningful, contribution-based communities. Link3, a web3 social network to build and discover new communities, is the biggest dApp within CyberConnect by user activity. It is loved by web3-native teams across blockchain networks for their community management needs. To push the potential of CyberAccount one step further, we’ve designed a powerful new way for organizations to embark on their web3 social journey. The organization account is a special kind of CyberAccount that provides advanced account management features such as multi-sig and customizable access control rules.

Additionally, the CyberConnect social network protocol provides a robust verification infrastructure that allows any third party to verify external accounts (e.g. Twitter, Discord) associated with the org account.

### CyberGraph

In web2, social graphs represent the connections between users, their content, and interests. They are a key data set social network platforms use to capture attention and increase user engagement. However, social graphs have recently become more of a limitation for users and developers due to their rampant centralization by big tech. To offer an alternative, we’re introducing CyberGraph, a decentralized, censorship-resistant, and user-owned alternative to power the next generation of social networking platforms on the internet.

CyberGraph is a set of smart contracts that links user identities (CyberAcconts) to their content and social connections and enables the recording of that rich social data onto multiple EVM-compatible blockchains. Through CyberGraph’s unique, customizable middleware design, storing users’ high-unit value social data on blockchain databases unlocks several novel social networking and community-building primitives, including monetization through tokenization.

**Content**

Every user with a CyberAccount is already equipped with creator capabilities and can publish monetizable content. When a piece of content like a post, image, or video is first created on a dApp on the CyberConnect protocol, it is uploaded to a decentralized storage system like IPFS or Arweave, following which a link between the URL of the content and the creator’s account is recorded on the CyberGraph smart contract. This decentralized account-to-content linking is foundational in guaranteeing true user ownership and removing centralized control from any one platform.  It is a critical step in facilitating online communication on the open web to prevent a corrupted/disincentivized platform from monopolizing and manipulating content distribution.

CyberGraph also sets the stage for the next stage of growth for the creator economy, empowering artists and creators to offer new experiences to their fans/audience by making their content collectible. Each collect signals a fan’s support of a specific piece of content or creator with a permanent record on the blockchain. Creators can use this engagement information to identify their earliest or their most engaged supporters and tailor their rewards or growth campaigns accordingly.

Additionally, every time a user comments on a piece of content on the CyberConnect social network, a link to the original content is established on the smart contract, ensuring content sovereignty and provenance. Users can also amplify the original content by sharing posts, images, videos, etc., much like in web2.

**W3ST**

One of the most community-loved features of CyberConnect V2 is W3ST (Web3 Status Token, pronounced as West). It is a non-transferrable NFT with on-chain issuer reference that acts as a digitally verifiable indicator of a user’s status in their community. It is a powerful instrument for users to find their tribe in web3. Organizations use W3ST to recognize their most engaged and loyal supporters and therefore build a digitally verifiable, immutable, and contextually meaningful contribution-based value system in their communities. W3ST is also instrumental in growing communities because it helps identify potential members with similar interests, affiliations, and past experiences.

We are thrilled to share that W3ST is now more gas efficient and even more discoverable. Instead of every W3ST as its unique ERC-721 contract, organizations will now utilize a singular ERC-1155 smart contract to save gas and empower their members with better discoverability on NFT platforms.

**Subscription**

Connections are the fabric that weaves online social networks; creators should be able to monetize the relationships and friendships they've garnered from their content and social capital. On CyberConnect protocol, subscriptions are designed to enable self-sovereign monetization of creators' communities.

In V3, users must set up their subscription logic with a predefined monthly fee to enable subscriptions. When your audience subscribes to you, they would need to prepay at least one month of subscription fee. With Subscription, creators can easily monetize their exclusive pay-to-reveal content.

**Middleware**

CyberGraph follows a middleware architecture to create more design space for customized logic. Middlewares are plug-and-play custom execution logic codes that run before and after an action trigger to extend the default behaviors in social networks.

CyberConnect provides a repository of middleware for developers to use by generalizing common computational patterns. For example, imagine that dApp *A* wants to build a social network for [Bored Ape Yacht Club](https://boredapeyachtclub.com/#/) by setting the condition that only BAYC holders can mint their app-specific ContentNFT, and dApp *B* wants to do the same thing for RTFKT’s [CloneX](https://clonex.rtfkt.com/) holders. The underlying pattern here is the same; the only difference is the gated ERC-721 contract address.

We invite the developer community to contribute to this repository and help us build a wide range of reusable middleware together. Dapp developers can pick and choose the relevant ones to plug into their dApp easily.

### CyberNetwork

Blockchains were designed for a decentralized, transparent, secure, and immutable system for recording and verifying information. However, actually storing data on existing blockchains is expensive. So, even though representing social data on the blockchain is good for programmability and interoperability, high gas costs are an incredibly challenging bottleneck for scaling web3 social networks to a billion users. In the last 11 months, over $2M in gas fees was paid by 1.3M users on CyberConnect V2 alone. Users need a better alternative that is dramatically scalable without compromising their data ownership.

In the coming months, we will introduce additional upgrades to the CyberConnect social network to make all social interactions/transactions much cheaper.

### **Roadmap**

CyberConnect V3 will be available for use in the coming days, beginning with Link3.

In the first edition of a series of rewards coming up for CYBER stakers, [Polyhedra](https://link3.to/cyberconnect/post/2e980313dcce3316c2ebd1dc77db885ba3ff9537e1818030c4ae22257dd16228), a blockchain infra provider focused on ZK Proofs, announced a special allocation of their newly launched ZK token to the Cyber ecosystem.

The special allocation includes a reward total of $1M (333,333 ZK tokens) to CYBER stakers.

**$2M Cyber Ecosystem Grants**

We are excited to announce the launch of Cyber Ecosystem Grants with a dedicated $2M fund to reward teams building web3 social apps and tooling. The inaugural Pilot Round of the program includes a $150k CYBER reward. Applications opened on April 1 and will be accepted until April 12th, 2024. Shortlisted projects will be announced on May 1, 2024.

Decentralized USD (USDD), the first over-collateralized decentralized stablecoin, is now available for trading on LetsExchange, a crypto exchange platform that supports the largest number of cryptocurrencies in the market.
