Over the past two years, the team behind CyberWallet has been at the forefront of building and growing consumer crypto infrastructure and applications. During this time, over 50 teams have built web3 applications utilizing the CyberConnect social network protocol and have cumulatively registered 1.2M+ users, creating 1.9M+ units of social content and 6M+ connections.

On this journey of bringing web3 to the world, we encountered that user onboarding presented a critical bottleneck in building robust, scalable crypto consumer products. For that reason, [in August](https://link3.to/cyberconnect/post/2e0c673ccbc2e07af0f17ebbf54fe5db23322626fc5e2ef1ea6ab4d91c61ba1d) we introduced CyberWallet, an ERC-4337 smart account. We’re grateful for the support of our community and the entire web3 fraternity, for giving us critical feedback to improve on that first version of CyberWallet. In the past 3 months, we deployed over [650,000 smart accounts](https://dune.com/cyberconnecthq/cyberaccount-cyberconnects-4337-smart-account) on Optimism, Arbitrum, Polygon, and Base among other top blockchain networks. That accounts for over 40% of all the smart accounts across all blockchains.

Today, we’re thrilled to officially launch the [CyberWallet Beta Launch Program](https://wallet.cyber.co/rewards) to welcome our community to help us test and improve several new features as they are rolled out widely and publicly in the coming months. The key highlight of this program is [CyberApps](http://wallet.cyber.co/apps), a digital marketplace of premier web3 apps that are ready to use with account abstraction. Starting today, until **Dec 21, 2023**, whitelisted users for the CyberConnect Community Rewards: Season 2 [Early Access] will be able to use CyberApps within your CyberWallet web app and earn points that will be redeemable for CYBER token rewards at the end of the season.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Jay, the co-founder of Four Pillars, in-person. Their company is located in the heart of Gangnam and is part of an incubator supported by Hashed, alongside other leading projects like Radius and NFT Bank. I had the privilege of doing a deep dive into Four Pillars and their research.

**What is Four Pillars’ background?**

The founding members, including our current CEO Steve and myself, originally came from a validator company called A41. At A41, Steve was a co-founder and the research lead, while I was in charge of governance.

Our team and the research team at A41 worked really well together, but we wanted to move beyond the limitations. We aimed to become a research firm that writes more objective and thesis-based articles. We often had to write articles promoting the chains we operated or those that generated significant revenue.

Although we had some freedom in our research, such instances became increasingly rare -ultimately making us reconsider our identity as researchers. At that moment, we identified a major industry issue: the trends in the Western crypto industry were imposed on Eastern markets, largely due to a lack of information dissemination. This issue led us to the dream of creating a research hub, like Messari or Delphi in the APAC region.

That's how Four Pillars was born. It has been exactly one year since our founding. Thanks to our extensive activities at A41, we established connections with many industry players and protocols, which made our start smoother.

Fortunately, within less than a month of founding, we were able to secure the necessary funding to sustain operations for two years from renowned investors such as Hashed and Kakao ventures. This allowed us to focus on proving the concept of our research business..

**And as you mentioned earlier, you embarked on this two-year journey - now it's been exactly one year. How do you think it's going so far?**

Yes - our direction has changed frequently. As you may know, it’s not easy to generate revenue in this industry, similar to the business of existing equity research report services. In the past, selling information in the blockchain industry was common, but as information barriers have lowered, monetization has become more challenging.Initially, we hypothesized that launching a subscription-based research service in the Korean market, similar to Messari or Delphi, would achieve a certain level of success. However, the model didn’t perform as well as we hoped.

We spent a lot of time contemplating how we could generate revenue. We consulted with industry leaders from Messari and Delphi, asking for advice on growing a research-focused company in the APAC market. They admitted that they weren’t making significant money from subscription models alone. So, we realized we needed to diversify our business model.(e.g., consulting, protocol design, investment, etc.)

Establishing our brand and demonstrating our capabilities were more important initially. As you may know, the industry is heavily brand-driven and influenced by thought leadership. We focused on building a strong foundation and producing high-quality research, even if it didn’t immediately generate revenue. This new approach helped us establish our brand and strengthen our identity.

Fortunately, our team produced excellent articles, attracting attention from various protocols. We started receiving requests for sponsored articles, protocol design consulting, and market penetration strategies, particularly for the Korean market. We may not offer a full A-to-Z package, but our experience as validators and our background in VC and project building have given us valuable insights.

These diverse experiences have allowed us to strategize effectively for the Korean market, generating revenue in the process. Now, we are at a point where we are considering how to scale our company further and make it more sustainable.

**Crypto operates 24/7, with countless rumors and distractions. The narrative and trends change every second. How do you narrow your focus, and what does your ideation process look like?**

That's a great question. When I first started studying protocols in 2019, the scope was quite limited. Back then, we mainly focused on Ethereum, Polkadot, Solana, EOS, and a few others. As you know, the space has expanded significantly and there are now many more sectors to cover.

We realized that one person couldn't possibly cover everything, so we decided to specialize. Each team member focuses on specific sectors. For example, Steve and I are more involved with integrated chains, while others concentrate on modular sectors or consumer applications. While we don't cover every aspect, we have specialists in each area that we do cover.

This specialization is important to our mission, which is to maintain neutrality. I believe that people are inherently biased, as everyone has different perspectives and emotions. As a research company - and in the blockchain industry in particular - it's crucial to remain neutral. By bringing together diverse perspectives within our team, we believe we can achieve a balanced and neutral viewpoint.

For instance, I personally don't favor Ethereum much. I prefer chains like Solana, Sui, and emerging integrated chains. However, within our company, there are people who do favor Ethereum, which helps us maintain neutrality in our research.

**You mentioned maintaining neutrality earlier. I also like to dig deep into research whenever I have time, and I often read reports on Twitter and follow various curators. However, in this era where modular blockchains are in the spotlight, I've noticed that you have a strong interest in monolithic blockchains. Could you explain why you're a monolithic maximalist?**

I personally think modular systems are very complex. The main advantage of modularity, as we often hear, is the division of labor. Each component is designed to perform optimally in its specific role.

However, this creates a lot of complexity because each element must synchronize and interact seamlessly with others. Updates to one component can affect the entire system, making it less stable overall. I studied systems engineering, so I might be biased, but from a builder's perspective, composability is a key value.

This means that the infrastructure should remain as stable and organic as possible, with minimal disruptive updates. In a modular system, achieving this stability is challenging. Modular systems don't consolidate into a single entity, but rather, continue to diversify. This raises questions about their long-term sustainability. Observing these trends within the Ethereum ecosystem, I remain skeptical about the long-term prospects of modular systems.

**While it's clear that Four Pillars target audience consists of subscribers who value in-depth research, I'm curious if there are any upcoming features or plans to capture the interest of the broader 90% of degens as well. Can you share any insights on that?**

Initially, we didn't focus on retail content. We didn't have the confidence to create content for retail users, nor did we want to. Our assessment showed that retail users prefer quick, easily digestible information, like airdrop announcements or straightforward, beneficial insights. That's why platforms like Telegram have a huge following.

However, we didn't establish our company to chase that kind of content. As mentioned earlier, we wanted to evenly distribute foundational technology trends. We aimed to produce research for builders and protocols, hoping that our articles would provide valuable insight. For instance, if someone is building an application, they might see our technical highlights and decide that a particular protocol is the best foundation for their project. Protocol designers might find gaps in their narratives and use our research to refine their strategies.

But now, we focus on builders and protocols, we also want to grow our readership. Targeting retail users is crucial because retail investors can become builders. We believe that creating a pipeline from research media to actionable insights is essential. To that end, we plan to add more opinion pieces. Articles can often be technical and hard to digest, so we aim to include shorter, more accessible content.

For example, we might quickly and accurately address issues like the mismanagement of token supplies or the sustainability of point systems. Also, we are considering founder interviews, not just to discuss technology or protocols but to explore their thoughts and lifestyles. Many people are interested in the personal stories behind successful individuals, similar to the EO Channel in Korea. It’s engaging to hear about their journeys, struggles, and thought processes.

When I meet someone like Vitalik, I want to know what drives them, how they live, and what they think about the future. Understanding their lifestyle can be more interesting and inspiring than just discussing technical details. We believe that featuring diverse perspectives and personal stories will make our content more relatable and engaging.

In conclusion, we aim to create content that steps back from purely technical aspects and highlights various facets of the industry. By doing so, we hope to provide a balanced and comprehensive view.We're working on enhancing our opinion lines to achieve this goal.

**Is there anything you want to highlight about Four Pillars that users should know?**

When I write, I, like everyone else, invest a lot of time particularly in the introduction. Instead of just translating information from documents and sources, I spend over 80% of my time thinking about the reasoning and the very existence of protocols.

I hope people understand this effort. Through our content, we don't just aim to provide insights like, "this technology is good," or, "you should buy this token." We want readers to question why blockchain is necessary and to challenge existing ideas, helping them form their own perspectives.

We are continuously refining our platform to ensure users can sense this depth. We hope you appreciate and engage with our content on this level.

One of the standout achievements within the first month of Cyber L2's launch is the overwhelming response to [CYBER Staking](https://link3.to/cyberconnect/post/2c864132a30d48c7837606062f1836f16f5db1869904e3535f47dc1b4ea4caec). With the introduction of CYBER Staking, users can now stake CYBER tokens, contributing to network security while earning various economic rewards and voting rights in governance. The community's enthusiastic participation led to the remarkable milestone of 2.5 million CYBER tokens already staked, highlighting the strong support and belief in the ecosystem’s potential for growth and sustainability.

Ecosystem Airdrop is another type of economic reward provided for our stakers and there are 2 additional types of incentives for users to stake and actively participate in the Cyber ecosystem: Network Revenue Sharing: The staked CYBER are delegated to Actively Validated Services (AVS) operators through EigenLayer. In return, stakers will share the revenue from these services. CYBER Staking Incentives: a total of 5.5M CYBER has been specifically allocated to the long-term incentive program.

### **Empowering Builders with Cyber Ecosystem Grants**

Looking towards the future, Cyber Community [announced](https://link3.to/cyberconnect/post/51e45b9bbf8b7ecf883f85e4bdc9dbb8937db3026f25398f93fb2b6a8e930283) the [Cyber Ecosystem Grants program](https://app.charmverse.io/cyber-ecosystem-grants) and allocated $2M worth of CYBER tokens to support builders in growing a thriving social L2 ecosystem and accelerate the overall adoption of onchain social and web3.

The program will kick off with the inaugural Pilot Round on Apr 1st, aiming to incentivize the development of social dApps on Cyber and developer tooling essential for enhancing the Cyber ecosystem's functionality and user experience.

Moreover, the initiative underscores Cyber's commitment to inclusivity and community involvement by inviting passionate individuals to nominate themselves for the Grants Council, a crucial body responsible for selecting projects eligible for grants within the program.

**Please Note:**

**✧** All unclaimed Mystery Boxes & Mini Shards have been automatically transferred to winners. This includes the Mini Shards on Polygon earned during [CyberTrek](https://link3.to/cybertrek).

**✧** 630 Mystery Boxes have been distributed to our amazing community contributors, who are grouped across three tiers based on their level of contribution. The three tiers are as follows:

✦ **Tier 1 (Reward: 15 Mystery Boxes)**

- Have Cyber Guardian or above role in Discord

✦ **Tier 2 (Reward: 5 Mystery Boxes)**

Contributor must meet at least two of the following criteria: 

- Have Doorman or above role in Discord
- Earned 500+ points on Dework
- 2000+ chat messages on discord

✦ **Tier 3 (Reward: 1 Mystery Box)**

Contributor must meet at least two of the following criteria: 

- Have a community contributor role on Discord (mail-boy, ambassadors, contributors, designers, content creators).
- Have been active on Dework in the last three months.
- Have been active on Discord in the last three months.
- Have contributed at least once through local marketing, merch design, merch production, etc.

Finally, if the contributor has already claimed more Mystery Boxes from earlier distribution, they will not be eligible for additional rewards. For example, Bob has claimed 6 Mystery Boxes from earlier campaigns but also qualified for Tier 2. They will not receive additional Mystery Boxes in this season of Community Rewards.

### **How to Claim**

Community Rewards: Season 1 is the first rewards program on **Optimism** with account abstraction. 

Please note:

**✧** CYBER can only be claimed by your CyberAccount. Each CyberConnect is owned and managed by your Externally Owned Account (EOA) wallet, like MetaMask. **✧** Your total rewards allocation is calculated by combining eligible NFTs in your CyberAccount and your EOA wallet used to interact with CyberConnect protocol. For example, Mini Shard claimed on Polygon with your CyberAccount + Mini Shard won through FanClub on Link3.

**✧** A Merkle Tree for the Community Rewards: Season 1 will be deployed on chain.

**✧** To claim, your CyberAccount must first be deployed on Optimism and have gas to execute the transaction. If you have not deployed your CyberAccount on Optimism yet, you can do so on the [rewards page](https://cyber.co/rewards).

**✧** If you’re a multi-sig smart contract account holder holding the eligible NFTs, please create a ticket on our [Discord](https://discord.gg/cyberconnect) to get in touch with. 

***Finally, we have identified a few Sybil accounts attempting to game the Community Rewards program. They have been excluded from this program. We will continue to monitor for suspicious activity.***
